Hebrews 12:28-29
"Do you see what we've got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. He's actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won't quit until it's all cleansed. God himself is Fire!"
I have often fallen into the Esau syndrome. Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. That's right; he was so hungry that he gave his birthright, his place as first born, away for a bowl of soup. Esau's hunger overcame his ability to act with sound judgment and he traded great wealth and a life time of blessing for bean soup. You can't take your eyes off the prize for a moment, without making mistakes that will cost you for the rest of your life. This is quite sobering. The writer of Hebrews uses the life mistake of Esau to drive home this truth to our hearts. What appears to be a few small weeds now may one day grow uncontrollably to choke out the entire garden.
Peter, in his second epistle, lists qualities that help the believer to live an overcoming life in Christ Jesus. He starts with basic faith and adds good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love. He instructs that each of these qualities blending together and developing each day will keep you growing in Christ and guarantee success for the believer. Creating firm footing all the way to the eternal kingdom established in the Lordship of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. What he began in you he will finish in you.
Esau lost sight of the unshakable kingdom of God. He lived to regret thoughtless actions that led to spiritual poverty. Not even his tears wiped out that fateful decision. Faith in the promise of Jesus to finish in us what he began is the foundation for right thinking which leads to right living. God is right in the thick of battle with you. You are not alone. When you are hungry, you can be confident that he knows and understands hunger. Don't allow your flesh to determine your future. The Spirit of God searched the mind of God and will never lead you astray. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, he will not fail. Love deeply and freely with the love of God which reconciled you to the Father. Worship profoundly with an honest heart and find the strength of God's joy in every part of your life that makes you an over comer.
The Enemy works to distract us on our journey and trick us into clinging to the cheap and temporary and ignoring the precious and eternal. Avoid the Esau Syndrome, trust Christ, and fix your eyes on Him. He will not fail. He will not leave you out in the cold, God himself is fire!!!
